Watch Tame Impala perform three songs for NPR's Tiny Desk

25 August 2020 | 1:12 pm | Emma Jones

Kevin Parker is joined by Tame Impala bandmates Jay Watson and Dom Simper for an at-home version of NPR's Tiny Desk.

Off the back of a new video for 'Is It True', and a remix of that same song by none other than Four TetTame Impala is the latest act to join NPR for their Tiny Desk (At Home) series.

Kevin Parker, joined by live band mates Jay Watson and Dom Simper, chose to perform two songs from their 2020 album, The Slow Rush (read our review here) in 'Breathe Deeper' and 'Is It True', as well as their 2019 single, 'Patience'. While we haven't been able to see these songs live given the whole pandemic thing, this clip shows a bit of an insight into just how much is going on in each song, and a potential snapshot into how brilliant they might sound if/when we can witness it in action (although we already know what 'Patience' looks like with the band sharing a live cut of the track from their 2019 headlining Coachella set).

When speaking to NPR ahead of the performance, Parker said, "I'll get Jay (Watson) and Dom (Simper) and we'll do this kind of electronic jam with heaps of equipment around us and we'll recreate the songs with samplers and sequencers. I've wanted to do something like this for a while and thought Tiny Desk would be the opportunity to do it." In the performance, Parker also referred to the set up as "Tame Impala Soundsystem," which we are very here for.

Parker also celebrated the recent fifth birthday of Tame Impala's game-changing Currents album, which just went platinum in the US. Read our retrospective piece here. He's been keeping busy with a string of activities and content for fans, including performing for Stephen Colbert‘s show, releasing a new remix for 070 Shake, and jumping on Song Exploder.
