Someone has mashed up Daniel Andrews press briefings with lofi hip hop beats
If you’ve ever spent a long night studying, there’s a high chance you have encountered the ChilledCow YouTube phenomenon, ‘lofi hip hop radio – beats to study/relax to’. With the animated image of a girl writing while her cat looks out at the cityscape at night, the channel has over 5million subscribers, and the video itself has been streamed hundreds of thousands of times.
Now, because of the popularity of ‘lofi hip hop radio – beats to study/relax to’, it’s not exactly surprising that other versions of the same concept have also appeared online. Some are great, some are knock offs, and because it’s the internet, some are memes.
A particular meme format of the original beats to study/relax to first came to my attention last year when someone showed me a clip in which UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson speaking during press conferences was mashed up with lofi hip hop beats. Since then, I’ve come across an 8 hour mash up of Bernie Sanders‘ iconic Filibuster, as well as others including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. Fast forward to August 2020, and Australian politicians are now also in the mix with someone creating a seven hour clip of Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and his recent press briefings regarding COVID-19 and mashing these up with some very chill lofi beats indeed titled “Lofi ISO beats with dandrews so we can get on the beers later.”
In the description, the creator Memeiva said of the clip, “This isn’t supposed to be a mockery or degrading in anyway, it’s devastating the deaths and spread of this virus in Australia, this was mostly made for archival purposes and as an alternative way to get the latest update (As of 2nd August).”
If you are one of those people who benefit from calmly spoken press conferences combined with lofi hip hop beats, you can check out the clip below. Our thoughts continue to be with our Victorian family as they face even more unprecedented turmoil in these unprecedented times. Stay home, wear a mask if you can and remember we’re all sending you lots of love!
