In the lead up to his second solo album, Sigur Rós frontman and multi-instrumentalist Jónsi is back with a brand new single, ‘Cannibal’. Featuring rock royalty Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins and PC Music’s AG Cook on production, ‘Cannibal’ is a shimmering display of musical authenticity.

Beginning with harmonised vocals and production that caresses Jónsi’s singing, ‘Cannibal’ is a ballad that expands with so much heart on display. Though each of the singles leading up to new album Shiver - out October 2nd - feel like wholehearted genre bends, ‘Cannibal’ embraces a diverse sound. There are choruses that glisten in climatic production a la Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Run Away With Me’, and vocally driven verses with incredibly minimal production.

As well as the Elizabeth Fraser feature on ‘Cannibal’, Shiver is also set to feature Swedish pop sensation Robyn, further cementing the diversity in sound that Jónsi has set out to achieve in this record. “I’ve been doing this for 30 years,” Jónsi says, speaking of the album. “I get tired of everything really easily. I always want things to be fun and exciting and fresh, and doing another album... I just wanted to have a different approach.”

Between these strange yet satisfying collaborations, ‘Cannibal’ blends ethereal pop, shoegaze and electronica into an expansive glimmer; one worth the wait.
