Live Review: PREMIERE: Bella Ferraro returns with bold and daring new sound on 'Her'

19 August 2020 | 11:08 am | Emma Jones

Eight years on from her now viral X Factor Australia audition in which she delivered a spellbinding cover of Bon Iver's 'Skinny Love', BELLA FERRARO returns with another magical performance. Titled 'Her', this single is her first in nearly a decade, and we are thrilled to be premiering it on Purple Sneakers today. Utterly entrancing with bouncing, beat-driven production and Ferraro's bewitching voice, 'Her' is a bold and daring new sound and one that shows the now UK-based Bella still has plenty more left in the tank.

The first thing that is apparent when listening to 'Her' is how self-assured and fully-realised it sounds. There is nothing uncertain about this single. It's fearless in its soaring vocals and off-kilter production, evoking the likes of Tove Lo or Vera Blue in the way it melds dark electronica with pop sensibilities. Pulling you in from the very start, the song wraps around your mind with its anthemic hook, while Bella's lyrics pull and tug at your heartstrings to immerse you into her world.

"Lyrically, 'Her' explores the stark differences in how this relationship was approached. I was dreamy and imaginative, convinced that everything would be fine; and she was cautious and cynical, sure that everything would go wrong. Ultimately, while our perspectives were opposed, they were similarly unrealistic," Ferraro said.

With even more in store for us, Bella Ferraro returns with a newly invigorated sense of self and of her artistic identity. Eight years on from making her first mark on the world, she looks set to do it all again, and 'Her' is the perfect place to pick back up from. Listen to the song below:
