3 June 2020 | 2:07 pm | Emma Jones

Relive a glorious set from Sampa the Great as she performs some of the songs on her incredible album, 'The Return' for Africa Day.

SAMPA THE GREAT recently shared a stunning performance online as part of international celebrations for Africa Day, held on May 25th.

The performance, which was originally live streamed on Africadelic Festival’s virtual program on Dutch music venue Paradiso Amsterdam’s Instagram account, sees Sampa perform tracks from her 2019 record, The Return, 'Freedom', 'Mwana' and 'Leading Us Home'. She is joined by her sister Mwanjé and longtime collaborator, Taudra, as well as keys courtesy of David Taafua. She shared the high-quality visuals on YouTube after the livestream.

In a description accompanying the performance, Sampa wrote, "On Africa Day, I can only speak as much for the young African creatives. Those starting their own organisations like young1ove, those starting their own labels and owning businesses on all levels."

"Journeying with you as we start to create our own narratives/stories is and has been fulfilling. Continue to plant seeds knowing that the day they are harvested (not planted) will be well worth it!"

The set comes after Sampa The Great recently released 'The Return', a short film documenting the creative process behind her incredible album of the same name. She also took out the Australian Music Prize for 2019 with this same record, becoming the first artist to win the award twice.
