1 April 2020 | 11:00 am | Emma Jones

Rising star Lola Scott delivers another glistening gem of indie pop with her brand new single, 'Take Me Back' out this week.

Rising star LOLA SCOTT is one act you need to have on your radar. If she isn't already, her latest single is the perfect introduction. The fresh faced indie pop artist has been consistently delivering with three singles out in 2019 following on from her debut in 2018, but it's 2020 that looks brighter than ever with 'Take Me Back' kicking things off in style. A glistening gem of indie pop, 'Take Me Back' is a huge step up for Lola Scott, which is why we are so excited to be premiering it on Purple Sneakers today.

From soft, gentle verses to hooks that hit hard in all the right places, it's a delicate balance of the hushed and steady with the explosive and emotional. It's unashamed pop, and its power is in Lola's no-holds-barred approach, leaving absolutely everything on the floor with a stunning vocal performance to complement her intimate songwriting. It's impressive from start to finish, and shows once again that she's an artist with so much still to give.

Speaking in depth with us about her new single, Lola Scott said of the release, "I wrote 'Take Me Back' in the perspective of being at the end of a long term relationship and reminiscing on when you first met and how easy it is to dive into something new with no fears and no walls up. Especially with those big loves of your life its easy to throw logic and overthinking out the window when you start seeing someone without being prepared to work through the struggles that most people face when a relationship gets more serious. In the second verse I skip to the present when I was writing the song and the relationship was hanging on by a thread and I’d lost sight of myself. I found myself holding onto the feelings of nostalgia from the start of the relationship instead of letting go even though it had evolved into something toxic for both of us. Writing these types of songs helps me regain perspective of how I’m really feeling.

"'Take Me Back' had been a unique writing process for me. I got to collaborate with a bunch of different people who are all close mates. I first wrote the rough harmony & melody just singing with my acoustic at home. It was one of those moments when you just word vomit out a song. Except most of the verses & outro where mumbles. I had the chorus & this recurring chant of 'Take Me Back' that kept circling my mind. I then worked on the song with my good mate Tim McArtney. We had some chats carving out the concept behind the song & trying to pry out what I was trying to express in the lyrics. We then produced the first version of the track together. After a while sitting on the song I took it to lord Jerome Blazé (who I went to highschool with)... I didn't expect to change too much but then Jerome hit me with a game changer & flipping the harmony of the chorus. After we'd reproduced tmb, keeping all the original vocal takes &some of the stems & from the version with Tim, I took the track to Oscar Sharah (co-writer & co-producer of Heaven Knows) to play some live drums in & layer some percussion. To tie all of these stems together Joel Quartermain smashed out the Mix. I've work with all these talented producers on the reg individually so it was great to be able to bring them all in on this one."
