Live Review: Concrete Surfers arrive in style with new single, 'Never Understood'

3 March 2020 | 2:45 pm | Emma Jones

Brisbane's CONCRETE SURFERS are riding a wave after a stellar few months in 2019. Not only did the band deliver sets that proved a highlight for many at last year's BIGSOUND, but they also released an EP, played at Falls Festival and added support slots for the likes of WAAXTHE DELTA RIGGS and THESE NEW SOUTH WHALES among others. Throw in a few of their own sold out headline shows and you've got yourself a band well and truly on the rise. Now they're set to do it all again, but only bigger, in 2020 and have kicked things off in style with their newest release, 'Never Understood'.

Sitting halfway between garage-rock and pop, Concrete Surfers mix the grit and grunge of their garage-rock influences with pop hooks and lyrics to make total earworms. Their latest single is no different, with a soaring chorus and thrashing guitars to make for an absolute belter. Jovi Brook, the band's singer and guitarist, says of the song, "It's about when you're trying to help out a friend in need, but there's only so much as an outsider - not giving up on a friend but feeling lost when you can't help them as much as you want to."

To celebrate the release in true style, Concrete Surfers are now set to head out on tour for what will absolutely be some unmissable shows. Head to their Facebook for all the details, and check out 'Never Understood' below.
