Love club music? We're looking for writers!

11 April 2019 | 11:14 am | Staff Writer

Are you the type of person who has 99999 different Spotify playlists for every single occasion? Or maybe you're an avid club-goer, well-versed in the ways of the dancefloor? Do you consider yourself opinionated?

Well it’s time to voice that opinion online, as the Purple Sneakers family are looking for new contributors and "sub-editors"!

Being one of the country’s most prominent niche music blogs, our mission here at Purple Sneakers is to source and feature what we like to call “emerging club music” from within Australia and the globe. We're putting the focus on electronic music, hip-hop, whatever you can shake it to on the dancefloor, with a focus on showcasing the diversity of talent Australia and the world has to offer.

Alongside the blog we also host a weekly radio program on Australian digital radio station FBI CLICK + present club shows, put on special events and play sets at festivals around the country as PURPLE SNEAKERS DJS.

So who exactly are we looking for to fill the role of a Purple Sneakers "sub-editor" or contributor?

Plug into the latest music with our FREE weekly newsletter

  • You're passionate about discovering new music
  • You’re a regular live music attendee
  • You’re in the know of what’s happening in the world of music news
  • You have excellent written communication skills
  • You want to gain experience in writing long-form/op-ed feature articles
  • Can work both in a team and independently
  • Are studying a relevant music/digital/communications/media degree (though not essential)

For the "sub-editor" role, the ideal candidate would be available to work one full day a week in our online content department. Here you will be writing, drafting and proof-reading articles. Although the position is unpaid, it’s extremely fun (you can trust us), and means that you’ll have endless opportunities of interviewing artists & industry heroes, receive media passes to gigs and festivals and be able to nab advanced album releases. All of this whilst operating the blog from behind the scenes, which in turn will see you build your own portfolio and the gain the experience and contacts that are damn necessary to continue in the industry.

And if you can’t dedicate that kind of time, but still would like to flex your writing muscles, we’re also on the look out for contributors. If you think you could dedicate a couple of articles a week writing about the music you love or turning your opinion into words, then this could be for you.

For those interested, email caitlin@purplesneakers.com.au with the subject reading, “Sub-editor Application” or “Contributor Application”. Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you’d suit the position, as well as attaching your CV and a few examples of your work.
