Breakbot breaks out his top five summer jams ahead of his Aus shows

29 November 2018 | 2:36 pm | Caitlin Medcalf

If there's one thing that BREAKBOT does best, it's creating some of the most sensual soundtracks to accompany your time on the dancefloor. The disco/electro king is a very seminal name in dance music, working closely with the iconic Ed Banger crew run by Busy P.

He's just put out a new EP titled Another You and boy, does it slap. There's three original numbers here, and then two remixes: one from Yuksek and the other is a Dildo Disco Mix too. In the first ten seconds of the title track, Ruckazoid's vocals croon over the top of the funk-laden instrumental. It's light and boppy, and is one you'll be hearing all damn summer.

'Devotion' sees him team up with Irfane, one of his tour mates, for arguably one of the catchiest songs I've heard all year. The hook is bliss, and the repetition of it is honestly really satisfying. And to round out the EP, Delafleur is on 'Don't Stop The Dance', bringing melancholy disco vibes to this intensely funky tune.

Breakbot's headed back to Australia very shortly to celebrate the release of the EP, so as he'll be playing some sunny shows, we asked him to hit us with his top five summer jams. Here's what he had to say:

Summers are made for travels and beach naps! Here are five tracks from five different sunny destinations, filled with sand, sweat and salty skins:

Serginho Meriti - Bons Momentos

We discovered this track with Irfane while digging in Brazil, it became an instant classic for us.

Nohelani Cypriano - Lihue

I wish I could say I discovered this one in Hawaii, where it was made, but I never had the chance to visit ! Definitely on my bucket list.

Barry Biggs - Love Come Down

I never went to Jamaica either, but if I close my eyes listening to this song, I’m there! This is a cover of a classic funk song by Evelyn Champagne King.

Steve Monite - Only You

Let’s go to Nigeria in 1984 with Steve Monite. Quite hard not to dance to this one.

Parcels - Lightenup (Breakbot Remix)

An Australian band living in Germany remixed by a french dude. As international as it gets! Bon voyage.
