Live Review: PREMIERE: Bask in the 'Shine' of Lavrence and his debut single

31 October 2018 | 10:09 am | Caitlin Medcalf

Why exist quietly when your true self is waiting to 'Shine'?

Sydney artist LAVRENCE asks this question on their debut single which we are so incredibly excited to be premiering today.

'Shine' comes to us today in both video and single form, and through these different mediums, we're given the full Lavrence experience.

Co-produced and written with Sydney's Bobby Gray, what's most apparent about this single from the get go is just how stylistic and nuanced the sound is. Opening up with a delicate synth line, dotted with xylophone hits that feel really New Order-esque, it progresses quickly into a dark, electronic haven with 80's undertones. It's a shameless exploration of self-love and empowerment, and through the music alone, it really makes you feel something.

Lavrence grew up listening and performing to pop artists such as The Spice Girls, later honing their skills in adolescence through studying singing, dancing and acting. Their background in the performing arts is on display in the lyric video, and suddenly we're observing the world of Lavrence.

After debuting his live performance at Heaps Gay's The Haus of Acrylic party a little while ago, Sydney's officially been let into his world and with 'Shine', we can only hope to see more of him soon.

This is pop at its absolute best; purposeful, strong, stylistic and moreso than anything, empowering. 'Shine' is a sneak peek into the world of Lavrence, and I guarantee you'll be wanting a part in it by the clip's end.
