Live Review: E^ST takes over Footscray Markets in her video for 'I Don't Lack Imagination'

24 August 2018 | 2:35 pm | Max Lewis

E^ST is back at it again, this time dropping a phenomenal video for her latest single 'I Don't Lack Imagination', directed by Josh Harris.

E^ST is one of those names in Aussie music you simply can't ignore, and if you haven't witness her revolutionary take on pop, there's no time like the present. She's just dropped a music video for her latest single 'I Don't Lack Imagination', and it's the perfect proof of exactly why all eyes are on E^ST.

E^ST (aka Mel Bester) has been named as one of the Top 100 women revolutionising pop music by Paper Magazine, and when you listen to tracks like 'Blowjob' or 'Life Goes On', it's not hard to imagine why. Her music packs a one-two punch of refreshing honesty and an impeccable understanding of pop melodies, resulting in music you feel in your heart as much as your body. She's got three EPs under her belt and 'I Don't Lack Imagination' is another taste of more music expected later this year. Meanwhile, she's supporting Amy Shark on her tour of Australia, stopping in Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Directed by Josh Harris and filmed in the usually bustling markets in Melbourne's Footscray, the video for 'I Don't Lack Imagination' is overwhelmingly on brand for E^ST. It doesn't take itself seriously but at the same time it exudes empowerment as Bester confidently struts around empty stalls, food courts and parking lots, mouthing along in tight closeups or zooming across the screen in a shopping trolley. The typically grey colour of Melbourne is contrasted beautifully with a motif of pink and purple, brought across by her outfit and an abundance of flower decorations. In this sense the video almost feels like a daydream, a portrayal of the fleeting desire to dance I'm sure almost everyone who has listened to E^ST has felt.
