Live Review: SG Lewis & AlunaGeorge make magic on 'Hurting'

17 August 2018 | 3:23 pm | Jackson Langford

SG LEWIS has spent his 2018 incredibly busy. Embarking on a three-part concept album released sporadically throughout the year, Dusk/Dark/Dawn, one would imagine it'd be hard for him to keep things interesting and fresh while still keeping up with the theme he has set himself. Yet, so far SG Lewis has kept his pace, delivering dream-worthy production time after time. But, his collaboration with ALUNAGEORGE, 'Hurting', stands out as a triumph.

AlunaGeorge, and particularly Aluna Francis, has proven time and time again that she's a worthy collaborator. With a sugar sweet voice that is impossible to replicate, she injects a tenderness and an honesty in everything she touches. Seems fitting then that SG Lewis would tap her for this anthem about longing for lost love. Aluna's voice rides Lewis' glittering production on 'Hurting' perfectly, as she keeps pace with the song's infectious percussion.

On the collaboration, Lewis speaks about why Aluna was such a great collaborator.

"Aluna and I met for the first time in LA earlier this year, and I was talking to her about the album concept, and in particular, Dark," he said in a statement.

"Aluna has been a part of so many dance records that I love, so I knew I wanted to make a club track with her! After we ate burritos and hung out, we made Hurting super quickly - the whole process was super natural between the two of us, and she has such an amazing ear for production.”
