Live Review: Ninajirachi makes her NLV Records debut with 'Pathetic' ft Naah

31 August 2018 | 10:14 am | Emma Jones

Joining the NLV Records family, Ninajirachi makes a statement with her brand new single, 'Pathetic' featuring Naah.

It's no secret at all that we here at PURPLE SNEAKERS are huge fans of NINAJIRACHI. From her debut single, 'Pure Luck', to her collab with YATES in 'Same World' later that year; her remixes for KILTER and FLIGHT FACILITIES, her flip of SATELLITE MODE's 'Warm Fire Lightning', and more recently her collab with NINA LAS VEGAS on 'Thursdays', this catalogue proves literally everything she touches turns into crystallised gold, and the exact same can be said for her new single, 'Pathetic'.

'Pathetic' marks a huge milestone for Ninajirachi, as it's her debut single on NLV RecordsNina Las Vegas' label. It also comes with the announcement that her long-awaited debut EP is also on the way. Furthermore, 'Pathetic' also represents the next chapter for Ninajirachi, who has now finished high school and is ready to dive deep into music, and this evolution is clear on her new track.

Teaming up with NAAH for some heavenly vocals, 'Pathetic' still has that quintessential Ninajirachi vibe, but it's evolved and developed- a testimony to the many hours she's spent working on her craft since 'Pure Luck' blew up. Dynamic and innovative, her creativity shines bright with her intricate beats, meticulous production and impressive ability to transport the listener into another world entirely. Her crystalline, pastel-hued sounds shine brighter than ever before on 'Pathetic', gentle but still grabbing your attention immediately. Infusing tender drum patterns with pop sensibilities, you'd be forgiven for thinking this is a joyful song given the warmth from Ninajirachi's production. However, Naah's lyrics are anything but as she sings of a disappointing feelings of unrequited love.

Ninajirachi said of her new single, "Naah sent me a message on Soundcloud around October last year saying she had written a song with some friends and would like to collaborate on it. I don’t usually meet collaborators in this way, but her music/voice is super nice and I loved everything about Pathetic. She is based in Stockholm, so she sent me stems with which to build the track and we emailed back and forth. When she first hit me up I was mid-HSC exams, so I was pretty slack on replies/music and I didn’t finish the song until around February, but I really love how it came together in the end."

Ultimately, Ninajirachi has made a statement with 'Pathetic': she's now ready to take on the world, and with the NLV Records crew by her side, there's absolutely no stopping her. The first release from her forthcoming debut EP, titled Lapland, I've got a feeling we're about to enter Ninajirachi season, and I'm 100% on board.
