Sahara Beck guides us through her sentimental sweet spots around Brisbane

31 August 2018 | 8:09 am | Holly O'Neill

With BIGSOUND on the horizon we asked hometown act art pop singer songwriter SAHARA BECK to show us her nearest and dearest local hotspots

With BIGSOUND on the horizon and thousands of fans and musos soon to descend on Brisbane, who better to show you around than the locals. One of the many hometown acts on the lineup is singer songwriter SAHARA BECK, who's new single 'Here We Go Again' is a total reinvention of her indie pop past. This new era for Beck sees her creativity evolving to be brash and fearless as she is, and empowering fellow women to "live loudly".

Since she was 12 she's been honing her songwriting, leading to slots at Falls Festival and Bluesfest, supporting acts like PAUL KELLY and BALL PARK MUSIC and an incoming Australian tour. Now she's bring her bold new direction to BIGSOUND, and ahead of the showcases we asked her to give us the lowdown on the places in Brisbane she holds near and dear. Check it out below and be sure to pencil in Sahara Beck in your schedules or see her in your city soon!

Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall

I love dropping in to Lefty’s for a few apple whiskeys - they are the absolute best!! And the staff at Lefty’s, well they're like family really and there is more often than not, really cool music playing any night of the week.

Enoggera Reservoir

It's located just a short drive out of town but it is so good and worth the trip for a cool swim with friends and the opportunity just to lay down on the grass, look up at the sky and calm your mind! It is certainly a favourite place for locals to visit and a bit of a hidden gem.

Heya Bar

Heya is a kind of underground little bar with a Shinjuku street vibe. It has a great food and my friends and I love to go there to play pool at the end of the night. It has a great atmosphere and its close to all the action in the Valley.

Orleigh Park, West End

My housemates introduced me to Orleigh Park on one classically beautiful Brisbane afternoon and it will always be a nostalgic place for me now. Brisbane is blessed with amazing parks and they are such wonderful places to enjoy hanging with friends and making the most of our incredible weather

Highgate Hill Park Lookout, West End

There’s a little park hill in West End on Dornock Terrace, I like going there and looking at the city. I've never known there to be more than 5 other people sitting on the hill when I'm there. Though I hear it can be very busy during Riverfire and New Year’s Eve Fireworks!! I love my happy little spot there.
