Live Review: PREMIERE: Priscilla delivers the electro-pop sound of the future with 'Don't You Realise?'

Perth electro-pop duo Priscilla have delivered solid sophomore single with 'Don't You Realise?', a breakneck bop with a powerful message of self love.

If you're feeling like you need a pick-me-up, look no further than PRISCILLA, the funky electro-pop duo hailing all the way from Perth. Their latest cut 'Don't You Realise?' is a powerful breakneck bop with notes of old-school funk and an important message.

With their debut 'You've Faded' earlier in 2018 the duo firmly established their broad sound of retro-tinged synth with prominent percussion and Priscilla's bold vocal delivery. As a sophomore single 'Don't You Realise?' build on these foundations exponentially while also digging a little deeper thematically, crafting a infectious pop tune with plenty of love to share.

Written in the shadow of least year's marriage equality plebiscite, 'Don't You Realise?' is dedicated to "anyone lost, alone or persecuted," and deals with a time when Priscilla herself was undergoing a time of great change. The result is a track that oozes forward thinking positivity, almost infectiously so. Buzzing old-school funk keys carry the melody while booming drums lead a brisk pace. With layers building at every section the song is packed to the brim with sounds, yet totally pulls this off. The chorus is the best example, with Priscilla's vocals delivering an irresistible hook as well as an inspiring message. Priscilla have outdone themselves with a textbook toe-tapper on 'Don't You Realise?'

It's almost been a year since that awful plebiscite business was put to bed, but it's something that will live on forever with LGBTQI+ folk for all the wrong reasons. Having a track like 'Don't You Realise?' which not only inspires you to be true to yourself and to tell anyone who isn't a fan to take a hike, but is also a slapper of a tune, is so important. There's still so much to be done, but with a track like this to push us forward, that goal is looking a little easier every day.
