Get ready for the six-floor multi-sensory one-day dance party, Maximum Joy

29 June 2018 | 11:51 am | Emma Jones

Much loved Sydney community PICNIC TOURING & EVENTS are levelling up this weekend with their first foray into the world of festivals, and true to form, they're not starting small. No, instead, they're taking over the entire Kings Cross Hotel in Sydney to create a six-floor, multi-sensory, one day dance party aptly named MAXIMUM JOY, and they've locked in one of this year's best line ups to kick it off in style.

From way down in the dive bar all the way through to the rooftop, there will be something for everyone come Sunday as the line up of all line ups is unleashed. Featuring Australian debuts from artists like the legendary Joe Claussell, Minimal Wave label boss Veronica Vasicka to some of Australia's most loved artists on the local front, Maximum Joy really is exactly what it says on the label. Of course, it's no coincidence the party extravaganza is being held right in the heart of the battleground to keep Sydney's nightlife alive, and Maximum Joy serves as a shot of adrenaline right where its needed, bringing together premier party institutions, record and fashion labels to combine forces for a first class event.

From MUSIC FROM MEMORY taking over the roof top, PICNIC and HOUSE OF MINCE taking care of the Bordello, HEAVENLY ruling the Club, a label showcase from KEN OATH RECORDSMOONSHOE, MOONTOWN RECORDS and MIDNIGHT SWIM going down in the disco diner and balcony while TEN PIECES RUDE CLUB will be in the dive bar, this truly is the multi-floor, multi-sensory party Sydney needs.

Speaking on Picnic's latest evolution, Carly Roberts said, “After ten years of running one of Sydney’s most loved underground dance parties - from warehouses to Sydney Opera House and literally everywhere good in-between - plus close to two years as the weekly entertainment booker at what has become a premier music destination, Harpoon Harry’s, Maximum Joy is the next logical step for Picnic. With nine international acts, and over 25 local DJ’s and live acts plus a handful of Sydney’s (and the world’s) best promoters, record labels and fashion labels putting their unique stamp on a stage each - this epic one day dance is unlike anything that’s come before it."

With an aim to be the "most intelligent, educational and confident one day event" to hit Sydney, Roberts heralded the imminent debut sets from New York's house god Joe Claussell and the queen of Minimal Wave Veronica Vasicka, saying they're setting the bar high for the day. Complemented live performances by Dopplereffekt (GER), dip in the pool (JPN), Michal Turtle (CHE), Kuniyuki Takahashi (JPN) and Sleep D as well as Tako (NLD) and Jamie Tiller (GER), plus an enormous line up of locals, this is not a event you'll want to miss! As Carly Roberts herself said, "Maximum Joy, by name and from July 1st - definitely by nature."
