Live Review: Keelan Mak's 'Weigh You Down' will do anything but that

17 May 2018 | 10:25 am | Jackson Langford

The diversity that's present in just three-and-a-half minutes show that Keelan Mak and 'Weigh You Down' are soaring too high for you to ignore.

The only thing KEELAN MAK and his newest single 'Weigh You Down' is heavy in is its cementation as a glorious pop moment. There's an uprising of men being unafraid to wear the pop label at the moment, and Mak proves that pop is, indeed, not a dirty word.

'Weigh You Down' marks the first track where Mak really does his jack-of-all-trades approach to music justice. With only his mind and his hands on production, he's delivered a throbbing melody with pulsating synths and peppers of distortion. He's tapped into a sultry R&B market and given it an entirely fresh and exciting spin.

His impeccable and radiant vocals are just the cherry on top. The hopeless devotion and un-ignorable passion he's injected into every line, namely the "I’d give it all away, (but only) if you’d want me - if you’d want me to" right before that infectious drop, is a marking of a clever songwriter who has that rare power to resonate with anyone who listens.
