Live Review: Get a taste of Cosmo's Midnight's forthcoming album with 'Polarised'

7 May 2018 | 2:44 pm | Holly O'Neill

Sydney twins COSMO'S MIDNIGHT have been busy lately, releasing a string of gorgeous singles and honing their style of dance funk fusion into what is their forthcoming record, What Comes Next. Set for release in mid June, the duo are bringing together collaborations from around the country and world to fully explore this new direction. 'Polarised' is their latest single from the release, a dreamy easy-listening track that leaves the boys to their own devices.

The track is one of a few on the release sans feature, instead highlighting the vocals of Cosmo's Midnight's own Pat. His breathy delivery echoes over warm chords and driving percussion. It fits so seamlessly with the track, you'd never be able to guess that this was his first feature on one of their own songs.

'Polarised' stands apart from their previous releases, taking a more laid back approach and carefully creating an all encompassing soundscape. Unlike the full body groves and hook filled lyrics of their previous singles, this new one is more of a soothing, meditative vibe. Layers of synths meld together and sneaky guitar riffs and funky flourishes reveal themselves over multiple listens.
