Live Review: Basenji breathes new life into Robin S' 90's floor filler 'Show Me Love'

To celebrate his Australian tour BASENJI closes out his bootleg series with a rework of ROBIN S' 'Show Me Love' that blends the emotional with the energetic

Sydney club kid BASENJI is just about to launch into his cross-country tour, bringing high energy vibes and a whole bunch of new tunes with him. To celebrate, he's released four solid bootlegs that explore the full scope of this new era for the musician. So far we've heard an ambient, RnB flip of JOJO's 'Baby It's You', dipped into emotional house for a rework JEFF BUCKLEY's 'Mojo Pin', and delved into a switch up of the huge HUDSON MOWHAKE track, 'Chimes'. The last track of his bootleg series, a rework of ROBIN S' 90's floor filler 'Show Me Love', really showcases all the facets of Basenji's new sound. Feeling both emotive and energetic, the track seamlessly blends ethereal builds with impactful percussive drops.

Pulling the vocals and instantly recognisable synth melody from the original track, Basenji shapes an entirely new soundscape around Robin S' commanding voice. The bootleg draws you in with its atmospheric build, as the vocals echo over delicate harps and dreamy pads.

When Basenji flips it into high gear with energetic kicks leading the charge and teases of the addictive synth riff, the euphoria is palpable. The build and the drop are two starkly different worlds in the track but feel totally earned, building off the audience's expectations of the original track while still delivering a whole new perspective on them.
