Live Review: PREMIERE: Your Girl Pho will get you 'Feelen' fine in no time

9 March 2018 | 7:59 am | Emma Jones

Perth artist Your Girl Pho is tipped to have a big year this year, and her latest single, 'Feelen' shows us exactly why.

YOUR GIRL PHO (aka Phoebe Gunson) is a remarkable artist. Emerging from Perth's vibrant and diverse music scene, her voice is layered in influences from the soul and jazz greats, yet she uses it in a way that makes it totally unique as well. Pairing her soulful singing with electronic-tinged beats that are really the perfect foundation for her to soar, she's well on her way to become a real force on the national scene, and we're predicting big things from her. If you need more convincing, her new single, 'Feelen', should do the trick!

Produced by DEMON DAYS' Joshua Chan (a fellow WA-soul act), 'Feelen' features an insatiable groove and lyrics that depict that moment where you're caught off guard and get a certain "ooey gooey" feeling. It's a stirring build and release of social tension and anxieties, expertly crafted thanks to Your Girl Pho's dynamic vocals perfectly capturing the euphoria when reconnecting with yourself. A chance encounter or a single moment and the effects of such a moment can be profound, particularly when you're stuck in a rut, and the impact nor the chance to really verbalise it is not missed on Your Girl Pho here.

Impressive from start to finish, Your Girl Pho really shines here on 'Feelen'. It's exciting to see such a fully-realised artist so early in her journey, and we can't help but get the feelin' (see what we did there?) that there's still so much more to come. If you like what you hear - and why wouldn't you - you can catch her live as she tours the country this March/April!
