Live Review: Rebel Yell distills her unique gritty techno into a new guest mix

28 March 2018 | 7:12 am | Holly O'Neill

Technohead REBEL YELL has been on our radars for a while now and it's about time she's on yours too. By day she's a primary school teacher, but by night she's an analog synth pro, vocalist and killer DJ. Her love of gritty aesthetics in her production and visuals plus constant inspiration from 80's genre EBM makes for a unique presence in the Australian scene.

Her two most recent singles 'Pressure Drop' and 'High Authority' clearly define what Rebel Yell is all about. Acidic synth lines, dense soundscapes, tinny drums and a commanding presence. Her tracks always have a powerful energy about them, across the lyrics and production, hypnotic in their depth and intensity. Through her visuals she's a bit more cheeky, playing up the seriousness of techno to an almost cheesy degree while still celebrating what makes it great.

Her incoming album Hired Muscle is set for released in June and bound to be packed with bangers if her singles are anything to go by. We had to showcase even more of what she can do with a guest mix, where Rebel Yell leads us down the techno rabbit hole. Catch her mix below and be sure to tune in to hear the mix on our radio show this Saturday on FBi Radio from 5-6pm. You can hear it on 94.5, DAB+ if you're in Sydney or stream online at fbiradio.com.
