Live Review: SEAVERA get heartbreakingly honest with 'Make Me Uncomfortable'
SEAVERA have made sure to dive deep into their inner monologues & pluck out the darkest secrets before bathing them in sunlight in 'Make Me Uncomfortable.'
A comfortable life is a life not well lived. Yeah, it's easy and predictable and dependable. Routines help us relax and stagnancy, to a point, is just what we need. But what's organisation without a little chaos? Having a dependable life that's devoid of challenge, whether its obstacles we face in our interactions or facing uneasy truths about ourselves, is how we prevent our growth. That's why, with tears falling and lips quivering, SEAVERA step bravely into the fire and beg, 'Make Me Uncomfortable.'
Helmed by the beautifully delicate vocals of Tori Zietsch and evocative production by Daniel Pinkerton, 'Make Me Uncomfortable' is an ode to those who live without inhibitions and without fear of having those tough conversations, even within their own mind, and how most of us shudder at the thought. The verses are anchored with nothing more than a scarce beat and an understated melody, giving Zietsch's vocals centre stage.
The most haunting part of 'Make Me Uncomfortable' is the way the song ends. While the entire song is peppered with the repetition ("I need you to break through all my walls / Show you I'm not invincible") it's not until the final quiet moments that the message truly hits home. As Pinkerton winds down the melody to a gentle hush, Zietsch whispers, "Everyone is scared of genuine connection," before changing the "everyone" to "I'm." It's a brutally honest way to close a brutally honest song about being, well, brutally honest.
