Live Review: Hammer's C-Space EP is intergalactic goodness

6 February 2018 | 10:42 am | Julie Fenwick

With galactic melodies, high energy finishes and thudding bass, Hammer's EP C-Space will take you out into orbit and deep into the club.

His first solo release from the Feel My Bicep label, HAMMER’s 3-track EP C-Space epitomises the high-energy, disco-infused demeanour he has come to be known for. Regular collaborator and long time pal to Bicep, Hammer’s discog has made its rounds on both the Optimo and Loft music labels. His presence in the Glaswegian electronic scene, with parties like Thunder Disco, has seen his influence spread across the UK circuit and just recently has been featured on ‘The Underground Sound of Glasgow’ beside the likes of JD Twitch and Jaspar Jones.

The EP itself is a sweeping showcase of analog bass, 80’s style synth and grungy build-ups, and demonstrates Hammer's keen ear for synchronicity. With faint disco undertones and galactic-style melodies, the tracks’ amalgamate contrasting samples for a complete and delicious sounding finish.

‘C-Space’ starts things off quick with mimicking melodies, ticking beats and hard-hitting bass. ‘Atlantic 252’ brings in a bit of funk, the backing melody accentuated by deep thuds, warbling synth and angelic undertones. Finally ‘Inside Soul’ brings us back to Earth, the overriding melodies coming out on top but the underlying bass getting us there.
