Live Review: Join Billy Davis' family with his video for 'Goldfish' ft. Denzel Curry

Melbourne producer Billy Davis has teamed up again with the Good Lords with an endearing video showing the creation of his single 'Goldfish'.

After being introduced to Melbourne producer Billy Davis and his 11-member band the Good Lords in 2017, we've gotten behind-the-scenes access to the family with his endearing video for 'Goldfish' ft US rapper, Denzel Curry. It's the first video from his debut album, A Family Portrait.

Shot in silky-smooth 50fps, the video chronicles the creation of 'Goldfish', from the humble beginnings of Billy Davis writing the song in his pyjamas, to jamming the track to his friends, and finally playing it live. Predominantly shot from the same mid-angle shot, Davis' living room is framed with the titular goldfish observing everything alongside the viewer, as members of the Good Lords pop in and out, playing various instruments , dancing, or causing mischief. The fly-on-the-wall style of filming gives the video a wholesome, personal vibe, as though we've been invited along to witness the creation of 'Goldfish' ourselves.

What's also special about the video is how it's just plain old fun. Alongside the boppy track, you can't help but get a smile on your dial as you see the crew hang out and eat pizza, make magic together in a tiny living room, or stage-dive for a hyped up crowd. It slots perfectly into the themes of family and community on A Family Portraitbeyond that, it's a simple idea executed flawlessly.
