Live Review: PREMIERE: Get into the summer groove with ALFALFA's debut, 'In Their Shoes'

8 November 2017 | 9:59 am | Max Lewis

Featuring members of Hey Frankie and Belove, Alfalfa have dropped 'In Their Shoes' - a groovy combo of RnB and 80s Pop and a perfect summer vibe.

ALFALFA is a special collaboration between two Melbourne musicians - Jess Palmer of Hey Frankie, and Nick Hermanus of Belove. They've just dropped their first single, and first taste of their upcoming debut EP, In Their Shoes.

Self-proclaimed as 'music for your soul', ALFALFA take the grooviest highlights from RnB, soul and, best of all, 80s pop, and combine it with raw yet refined production for a perfect summer vibe.

The most noticeable thing about 'In Their Shoes' is evident right from the start - the production is refreshingly organic and natural, switching between feather touches of reverb, to gorgeously bare sections. Written, rehearsed and recorded in Nick Hermanus's bedroom studio, the track is crisp, warm, and groovy as hell, with a staccato organ melody and jazzy guitar accompaniment pairing nicely with Jess Palmer's soulful vocals. Along with the deliciously snappy beat, the mixing is so well spaced that, if you close your eyes, it sounds like the duo are grooving in the room with you.
