Live Review: Thandi Phoenix gets the Tyler Touche treatment in his 'Standing Too Close' remix

Tyler Touche has dropped a funky remix of Thandi Phoenix's 'Standing Too Close', turning the source material into a retro disco-house banger.

Following the momentum from her stunning track ‘Standing Too Close’ Sydney singer/songwriter Thandi Phoenix has just dropped an exciting remix by none other than Brisbane’s Tyler Touche.

Tyler Touche has been on the rise since his French-house inspired bop ‘Baguette’ which, alongside later releases ‘Heart in Motion’ and ‘Act of God’, scored high rotation on Triple J and earned him the moniker ‘The Prince of Funk’. At just 21 years old, he’s displayed remarkable skill merging retro disco stylings with modern house in a tight package sure to get any crowd going. He’s played at Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival, and his newest remix of Thandi Phoenix is just one of many solid releases.

The remix of ‘Standing too Close’ sees the intensely emotional vibe of the original morphed into a hi-hat heavy disco/house combo, full of bright and fluttery synths and deliciously peppy keys. It’s a good deal stripped back from the original, instead focusing on a solid keyboard hook and an irresistible percussive groove. Phoenix’s gorgeous vocals take a back seat but don’t for a second lose their effectiveness in conveying emotion, even when cut up and heavily affected.
