Live Review: PREMIERE: Tina Says sets out to impress on new single, 'With Me'

29 September 2017 | 12:29 pm | Emma Jones

Perth producer TINA SAYS has been a favourite of ours for a few years now, and you only have to listen to anything she's ever released to know why. Harnessing the power of heavy house, techno and more, she crafts dark jams that transport you to an industrial, dark club where Tina Says is playing a heaving set at 3am. She pushes herself with each and every release, delving further into the realm of industrial dance to make dystopian jams that will make you move whether you like it or not, and her latest efforts only further cement this.

'With Me' builds on the impressive groundwork already laid out by Tina Says a few months back in 'Sweat'. Making it her sole mission to get you dancing, 'With Me' is 'Sweat's darker cousin, with a throbbing bassline, distorted vocals and razor sharp synths. Taking influences from artists like ALISON WONDERLANDNINA LAS VEGASDJEMBA DJEMBA and DILLON FRANCIS (all of whom she has supported in the past), Tina Says makes big sounds for big rooms, and thanks to her unstoppable ambition, she's managed to perfect her craft after years of playing around Perth and the rest of the country.

Starting out with a rather mellow intro, things quickly pick up speed in 'With Me', as the one lyric, "Dance with me," repeatedly echoes out, heralding the arrival of some bouncing synths to make the song really bang. Tina Says is at her best in the thick of a heaving club-ready track, and she steers this ship through all its ebbs and flows, navigating expertly as the thunderous crashes of the drops take hold.

It's an impressive release from an ever-impressive producer. Having already played some key shows this year at HOT DUB WINE MACHINE, as well as supporting DILLON FRANCIS, it feels like this is Tina's time now - and we are bloody here for it.
