Live Review: UV boi is back with hard-hitting tune 'All I Want' and some big news

9 August 2017 | 4:07 pm | Molly McLaughlin

UV boi has just released the dramatic first single from his forthcoming sophomore EP, and announced a national headline tour.

UV BOI, the Brisbane-based producer responsible for a slew of infectious slow jams including ‘Luv’ and ‘If She, If He’, has just released the dramatic first single 'All I Want' from his forthcoming EP, Returned Alone, and also announced a national headline tour.

The song features UV boi’s label mate VILLETTE, with a bouncy top line underpinned by an intense, rhythmic groove. Villette’s dreamy vocals (with just a touch of attitude) soar on this track, and her pleading refrain is hard to forget. But, UV boi’s trademark repetitive, hypnotic beats are the star of the show, swinging from pounding to subtle and back again.

It has been a wild ride for UV boi, who caught his big break on Soundcloud when taste-making Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth tapped him for a collaboration on ‘Gods’ in 2014. His debut EP turned heads, and this young gun is obviously not going anywhere.  ‘All I Want’ is a preview of interesting things to come on Returned Alone, which, according to UV boi, is a new perspective on his previous work that largely focuses on the twists and turns of the search for love.

"Was love found?” he asks. “Was someone left with a broken heart or maybe were both? Were things moving at different speeds? Was I ready? Did I ruin something that could have blossomed into something beautiful before it even started?” Apparently Returned Alone is mostly written from the viewpoint of the other side of a relationship, exploring the endless possibilities of what could have been.

UV boi will be hitting up major cities and regional centres all around Australia in September and October. His EP Returned Alone is set for release on October 29.
