Live Review: Escape with Men I Trust's new dreamy disco single 'Tailwhip'

28 August 2017 | 8:06 am | Julie Fenwick

MEN I TRUST’s most recent release ‘Tailwhip’ is a placid mix of electronic and disco, a cool call to escape whatever confines you’re in.

I woke up this morning thinking of leaving the city for a while; no cars, or trams, or people. The next thought I had was to put on this song.

MEN I TRUST’s most recent release ‘Tailwhip’ is a placid mix of electronic and disco, a cool call to escape whatever confines you’re in. In fact, when listening to the song, one may experience an overwhelming feeling of release, or at least I do. It also has a nice layering about it- nothing too prominent, yet everything is heard. It’s calming and, vivacious, but in a kind of late 20’s way.

Men I Trust are the first of a new wave of artists; Nu disco / Indie dance isn’t a genre that one comes across very often, but its gaining traction in the electronica world. And it’s great.

The trio hail from Montreal, Quebec and are self-described DIY artists; everything is their own mix, master, etc. Even their music videos are their own too. I suspect an upcoming album release, as their last album Headroom, was released back in 2015, when they really came together as a group. This means that their next album will be even better, perhaps more mastered and explorative of sounds.

We trust Men I Trust. And we hope you will too.
