New Zealand artist MATTHEW YOUNG has unveiled his tantalising new single revive, ‘Collect’, along with some special bonus visuals.

The elusive Auckland-based artist is now putting himself back on the radar after having spent some time off the grid, with this latest offering seeing him return to the scene just shy of a year since his last release.

Despite his ambiguous nature, Young's first release 'Lean Close' and later debut EP, Dive, quickly earned itself a pedestal in international music scenes. Dive's contemporary sound was both bold and emotive, leaving room for growth and development in his artistic direction. In this new track, we see Young take the lead on production, with Josh Fountain (Leisure, Maala) laying on the finishing touches of TLC in the creation of this captivating new release.

‘Collect’ boasts layers of straight-hooked R&B beats with poignant, falsetto vocals and intriguing funked up melodies, glossing the song's clean and modest structure with lacquers of alluring and futuristic tones.

Working alongside film makers Jordan Arts and Sean Loftin, the accompanying video opens equivocally with a vintage clad lass in a retro-looking phone booth airily making a call. As the scene pans and the focus changes, we see Young sitting atop the desolate phone booth in the shade of fluorescent lamplights, juxtaposed against a backdrop of an otherwise blacked out world.

Matthew Young's impulsive, sublime production formulates new waves of nostalgia with torrents of R&B and soul cues, while still maintaining a defiantly original sound. We hope that 'Collect' might even be a little tease of more new things to come... but, either way, we're happy to keep this funky-fresh tune playing on repeat.
