Live Review: Love Deluxe wants you to taste the 'Spice Of Life'

12 July 2017 | 6:35 am | Jackson Langford

Like any good structure, making music has to start from the ground up. Without a solid foundation, everything will crumble. While some musicians like to throw things at the wall to see what sticks, which is totally fine, that is not the way LOVE DELUXE rolls. With meticulous production and an incredible eye for detail, Love Deluxe has delivered your ultimate Friday afternoon pull-through jam with 'Spice of Life.'

While there's no direct reference to the Spice Girls - *sigh* there never is - 'Spice of Life' completely encapsulates everything they were about: energy, energy, energy. Beginning with a stomping beat, Love Deluxe begins painting his sonic superstructure with vivid psychedelic synths and Nile Rodgers-esque guitars, before coating in a stunning golden horn section that is so subtle you might miss it.

As he progresses through this melodic journey, Love Deluxe continues to add layer after layer. This leaves just enough time for you to appreciate and groove to each individual element in the song, while also getting you to melt further and further into this concoction. By cutting up and distorting an obscure Spanish track, Love Deluxe has almost managed to infuse the song with just enough culture to leave you salivating for more.
