Live Review: Listen to a lo-fi gem 'Hello There' from Sophie Meiers

5 June 2017 | 7:43 am | Sonny Thomas

Sophie Meiers has released a new lo-fi gem titled 'Hello There'

Young SOPHIE MEIERS has only just graduated high school, but she's already got over 20k Soundcloud followers and a stack of releases. Her latest single 'Hello There' in collaboration with Englewood and Simon Eng is a lo-fi gem that demonstrates her maturity as a song writer.

There's a stark beauty to Sophie Meiers' voice. She croons over crackly lo-fi beats bringing jazzy vibes smoother than velvet. It conjures to mind smokey bars, French cigarettes and romance. She nonchalantly wades through break up sorrows daring you to 'judge her coping mechanisms'. There's a lot of jazz influenced neo-soul floating around at the moment but Meiers' stands out above the rest.

As a self described "singer, songwriter, music nerd, photographer, graphic artist, painter, psychedelic rock and roller, alleycat and art hoe," she's certainly not short on talent. Since finishing high school she plans to make the move to Baltimore and "play shows and make tonnes of art and music" before setting off to couch surf the world. I can't wait to hear what's in store.
