Live Review: PREMIERE: Boo Seeka announce debut album and share glorious new single, 'Turn Up Your Light'

29 June 2017 | 10:00 am | Emma Jones

Having just wrapped up a mammoth 26-date tour across the country as well as a US tour, BOO SEEKA are not showing any signs at all of slowing down, with the duo now announcing they're set to release their long-awaited debut album this August. Titled Never Too Soon, the good news doesn't stop there, with the duo also releasing a brand new single today as well in 'Turn Up Your Light.'

With influences from the likes of Alt-J and The Shins winding through, but with their own unique stamp on it, Boo Seeka's strengths are on full display here in 'Turn Up Your Light' with a percussive groove, intoxicating vocal harmonies and rich atmospherics. Delicate piano keys pierce the shifting bed of crisp drum beats and haze, while the lyrics paint an intimate picture with uplifting messages like "Turn up your light/ Don't be anything but you."

Speaking on the forthcoming debut album, Sammy Seeka said, “This album best reflects our recent life experiences, encapsulating all we've encountered over the past two and a half years. Our recording process for the album followed no structure; we recorded vocals in carparks, tour buses and our studios in Sydney. One vocal loop was recorded into an iPhone on stage in a theatre in America. Ultimately every idea and piece of music we had come together in my bedroom studio, we then took it to our producer Ian Pritchett's garage studio and that's where the songs came to life.”

Never Too Soon is out August 4th via Sureshaker Music, but if you can't wait, you can pre-order it from tomorrow. Given that they've already played a whopping 40 shows this year, we can forgive them for taking a little break. But, we wouldn't be surprised at all if they're back out on the road very soon, as this record is shaping up to be quite the treat!
