RAC dives deep into Portland's best-kept secrets

7 June 2017 | 8:12 am | Jackson Langford

Portuguese remixer turned songwriter RAC has truly cemented mainstay status in electronic music. Between nabbing a GRAMMY for his remix of Bob Moses' 'Tearing Me Up' and collaborating with some of contemporary music's biggest names - Lana Del Rey, Rostam Batmanglij, Rivers Cuomo - RAC is ensuring that his unique approach to indie-electronic music shines far brighter than the rest.

Now, RAC is gearing up for the release of his new record EGO. From the upcoming LP, he's already given us the trop-synth bop with Rostam Batmanglij (of Vampire Weekend fame) 'This Song' and the delightfully nostalgic banger 'I Still Wanna Know' with Weezer's Rivers Cuomo. Slated for a July 14 release, RAC is ensuring that EGO is going to one of 2017's more exciting releases. Fittingly, he also resides in one of the world's most exciting cities, Portland, and he's taken us through the cultural hub to give us the essentials.

Favorite Ramen:

Noraneko

I'm by no means a ramen expert, but I've been fortunate enough to travel to Japan and I find this to be quite comparable. I was already a big fan of their Biwa restaurant and this is no exception.

Favorite Clothing Shop:

Frances May

Their selection is impeccable. You can tell that a lot of effort is being put into curating the best brands and individual pieces.

Favorite Synth Store:

Control Voltage

Maybe this isn't fair because there's really only one game in town, but I think they have an excellent selection and you can play everything in the store. Everybody that works there is extremely knowledgeable and they frequently have synth workshops so you can learn how it all works.

Favorite Coffee:

Barista

It's not part of my daily routine, as I usually make my own coffee at home. When I want a really well brewed cup of coffee or espresso, Barista is the best.

Favorite Hiking Spot:

Dog Mountain

It can be a brutal hike in the heat, but if you go at the right time of the year, you can see all the flowers blooming. It's quite spectacular.

EGO is out July 14 on COUNTER RECORDS via INERTIA MUSIC
