New Zealand Soul/RnB electronic fusion ensemble LADI6 have released a brand new single, ‘Guru’, and it's simply too good to be missed.

Ladi6 have had a prominent following in New Zealand and in the Pacific music scene for many years, however, their smooth, eclectic and soul influenced compositions hasn’t yet caused the stir that it deserves on our golden soils.

The band is led by Ladi (aka Karoline Tamati) on vocals, with her husband, Parks, beatmaking and producing the project. They are joined by drummer Julien Dyne and keyboardist Brandon Haru, who are also producers.

‘Guru’ is part of Ladi6’s first batch of releases after a very long hiatus, and follows on from their single, ‘Beffy’, which dropped nearly a year ago. This track is oozing with futuristic funk, soothing aural continuums and a wide array of genre imprints, presenting a predominantly electronic sound with an organic, exotic influence.

Undulating keys, oscillating synths and swelling pads create a cosmic, surfed-up soundscape that fluctuates somewhere between outer space and underwater. Beats, ticks and percussive drums saunter the listener through the track, and Ladi’s extraordinarily expressive, free-flowing vocals amalgamate this diverse sonic spectrum to keep it earthbound.

Ladi6 state: “While we toyed with the idea of fine-tuning the structure, we decided against it, leaving it almost exactly as it arrived originally to us onstage.”

Ladi’s main lyric hook on ‘Guru’ is both musically catchy and eloquently humble, connoting the track with the words “starve fear, feed faith, ride on through the night.”

The hypnotic fusion of outer aether sonic sounds and mollifying vocals has already got us craving more. Luckily, this is the leading track from Ladi6’s upcoming Royal Blue 3000 EP and is out on June 2nd, so be sure to watch this space!
