Live Review: Jake Howden and his new tune 'Lonely' is what 2017 needs

3 May 2017 | 7:27 am | Jackson Langford

Giving not much more of a description of new tune 'Lonely' besides "best consumed at 3am with a glass of wine in hand", Central Coast resident JAKE HOWDEN has delivered a moody tune that is shrouded in mystery and painful honesty. After copping a massive 2.7 million Spotify streams on his last single 'Lost Things', which is a far more acoustic affair, Jake Howden has more than delivered with this new, electronic-based stunner.

To be fair, 'Lonely' still possesses much of those acoustic guitar elements. The opening seconds are propelled by isolated guitar strums and backed with the light thump of percussion and, as it turns out, Jake Howden doesn't need to much more than that to convey his emotions clearly and powerfully, no matter how vulnerable. "I don't want to, I don't want to be lonely," he sings over the understated chorus, ensuring that his words are the centrepiece of this gorgeous track.

The entire song is anchored in subtlety and isolation, which indeed makes it perfect for 3am listening. It sounds like sleepless, rainy nights - perhaps a little intoxicated - but in the best way possible. Jake Howden is pouring his heart out as well as a nice glass of pinot noir and once you press play, you'll be savouring every taste.
