Jad & The teases new EP with ‘Low Budget Action Movie’
JAD & THE, otherwise known as Berlin via Brisbane boy Jad Lee, along with being a co-founder of radio show and label Beats of No Nation and half of quirky dance duo Super Fun Bumper Edition with Charles Murdoch, is also a stellar house producer in his own right. His new EP Hollywood, released through Beats of No Nation, is his first solo release on the label and shows an evolution of his sound and the influence the local scene has had on his style. The EP is due for release at the start of next month and we’ve only gotten one teaser so far but now we have a second with ‘Low Budget Action Movie’.
This new release sees him opening up his sound from the funky house he’s known for by introducing more electronic sounds he’s picked up from the Berlin scene. The whole EP got its cinematic titles from the source of its more unique samples, a charity bin filled with old VHS tapes of forgotten films. In this track you can here snippets of vocals deep in the mix along with more echoey synths which are most likely ripped straight from the soundtrack of one of those B grade movies.
Choppy clicks bounce from ear to ear in the percussion as a gorgeous ethereal loop plays into infinity under repeated spoken loops and a sustained rising chord. This chord contrasts all the skittering choppiness of the rest of the production and links the differing sections together; as layers are introduced and dropped away, the chord remains. A warm square synth phrase takes its place at the halfway mark, as it reaches it’s most danceable level of intensity. Moving towards the end, the layers slowly drop off, highlighting the attention to detail in every element of the tracks composition as they are shown off.
This track marks a new direction for Jad & The, and this old school electronic sound will be explored more with the release of his new EP. The official release is set for the first of July, head to the Beats of No Nation bandcamp to preorder the Jad & The‘s Hollywood EP now.
