Live Review: Donatachi gets wild for a remix of Boy Sim's 'Animals'

Sydney's own DONATACHI brings his hyper energy to BOY SIM's already huge pop tune 'Animals'.

Internet pop producer BOY SIM has just released a remix EP of his track 'Animals' by artists from all over the world that have found their musical niches online. One of those artists is Sydney's own DONATACHI, who brings his hyper energy to the already huge pop tune.

Where the original track is large and synth driven, this remix cuts those chords and ups the tempo so it's perfect to jump around to. The vocals float over a skittering beat featuring sounds from the original with a nice layering of Donatatchi flavour, like percussive clicking samples and whirring synths.

The little twinkling additions to the track, in the adjacent harmonies and dissonant computery sounds, fit seamlessly with the original pieces of 'Animals'. Even after cutting up the lead chords, he builds an even huger sound out of them, eventually layering with each drop to introducing pulsing chords underneath and chopped and warped vocals on top.

The overall chord structure, synthesis and vocals of the original track invoke dance music of the late 90's/early 00's, a style Donatatchi frequently references through his production. Keen listeners will pick the short and sharp trance stabs in the breakdowns and a warm, rounded synth keeping the chords in check throughout as little nods to his fav musical era.

The remix EP is available for only a little over 5 buckos on bandcamp, where you can get a whole spectrum of interpretations of this huge tune, so even if you don't like this one (doubt it), there's something for everyone. In the meantime, we'll put this banger on repeat for every dance party until the end of time.
