Live Review: Kate Martin sets fire to Melbourne in new video
'Set My Life to Fire' is the latest soulful, heart wrencher of a track to come from KATE MARTIN. We've had this on repeat since it came out a few weeks ago, and has now been given some visual treatment. The beautiful video was shot by Oh Yeah Wow in Melbourne, and the video is as moody as the track itself.
'Set My Life to Fire' has an eclectic, almost euphoric tone, yet takes a darker turn pretty quickly. Something Kate Martin has exceeded in is taking her angelic voice and putting a darker twist on it to perfectly execute her emotion.
When speaking of 'Set My Life to Fire', Martin has said that it "is a metaphor for the way fire burns but also purifies at the same time. It’s about burning the preconceived notions I had about how my life would turn out. When I wrote this song I had been living in Melbourne for just over a year and I was finding it difficult to embrace the changes and constant transitions of life. I decided to write Set My Life To Fire as a way of channelling my thoughts and turning them into a creative outpouring… the central theme being the acceptance of things outside of my control."
Kate Martin herself is equally stunning, dark and brooding in the clip, portraying Lana Del Ray vibes. Her beauty is contrasted with the dark views of an ominous, stormy Melbourne. With exploding windows and a fierce storm, the fire erupts Martin's surroundings, but intriguingly takes the dark surroundings and turns them into blooming, beautiful forest-like nature in the end. A deeper look would show that, as Martin detailed of the central theme, once you accept the things outside of your control, beautiful things happen instead. Take a look below:
