Live Review: Airynore lights up the club with new EP 'Glowing'

26 April 2017 | 8:27 am | Holly O'Neill

AIRYNORE's new EP 'Glowing' channels genres like jersey club, trap and norclub over the three tracks, each one larger than the last.

Sydney club night/radio show/label/slash collectors SIDECHAINS have had their fingers on the pulse of Australian club music for a few years now. After championing forward thinking dance tracks and releasing a number of those made in our own backyard, they're now extending their reach with a new international release by their pal AIRYNORE of San Fransisco. His new EP, Glowing, channels genres like jersey club, trap and norclub over the three tracks, each one larger than the last.

Airynore is no stranger to hard hitting drops, but in this release we see a real focus on the build up to those big moments. Each track takes a lot of care establishing the mood so when the bass hits, it's super satisfying hearing the pay off to the intricate set up. You can really tell he cares about his craft and specific sound when you pay attention to the scope of samples used across the tracks. If you listen close you can hear little snippets of echoing vocaloids, Sailor Moon SFX, bongo drums and mechanical whirring, and that's not even scratching the surface.

The title track is a stunning opener, setting the tone for the tracks to come. More downtempo than the rest, it eases us in, while still delivering a large sample laden feel. 'No More Lies' invokes a bit of RUSTIE, as the frantic synth pads arpeggiate against a trap drop. Airynore changes the mood in the middle, adding a touch of a jersey break, chopping the vocals in classic jersey style to the beat giving us some more time to breathe before the final drop. Finally, 'Without You' slowly builds delicate layers of warm synths contrasted against metallic samples, teasing us with pulsing bass that's introduced and dropped away every few bars. There's a final fake out just before the biggest drop in the EP, thudding, monotonous and bassy enough to shake the foundations of any club.

This three track EP fits nicely into Sidechains' already impressive club kid roster, and with their growing reputation hopefully we will see more international releases from them in the future. As for Airynore, Glowing is a brilliant opening release for the year and now he has a foot in the door in Aus, fingers crossed that he brings his lush dense sounds down under soon.
