Winston Surfshirt take us through Manly ahead of their national tour
It's been all systems go for WINSTON SURFSHIRT. With their unique blend of soul, funk, dream pop and more, they've been absolutely everywhere since the release of hit single 'Be About You,' and they're set to only increase this with not only a national tour coming up, but a performance at SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS as well. The band sold out their single launch, supported Midnight Oil and were played by Sir Elton John himself on his very own Beats 1 show. Not bloody bad.
It's no surprise at all, though. 'Be About You' is charming, smooth and heartfelt, and an exciting step forward for the band that just keep making strides. We're really excited to see where Winston Surfshirt go next, and we've got our eyes firmly planted on them. To get to know them a little better, we got the man himself (the actual Winston Surfshirt) to take us through his home of Manly, which, according to him is "the tits". El Beau Room
Although it's no longer a venue, El Beau Room was the party of Manly. It lived directly across from the Wharf from about 2014-16 . It used to be an old Italian restaurant that had been there for years, 3 boys bought the place and turned it into a tiny little bar that we used to play at every Sunday for the entirety of its existence. Table dancing, ceiling hanging wild times. Clearly surrounding residents weren’t too down with the ruckus so as all of Sydney she closed down.

The Office
Just next to manly wharf bar there is a huge patch of grass in front of a beach that faces the harbour, suns out and the place is packed with people drinking and watching the sunset. Its a really good vibe and the Manly Police let it happen which is dope.
We rolled up on a houseboat and played a gig on the rooftop one Sunday when the place was packed. Then we did it again like 6 months later.
4 Pines
When i remember this small brewery starting it was just a little bar with a one barrel brewery tucked inside it. It's now in space. Like space the place with the stars and thing. Legit they sent beer to space. Classic. But honestly they are smashing it, I see them everywhere I go now in Australia and it's generally the tidiest beer about! Tis’ a must when you come by manly.
My House
Ive moved 4 times in 4 years within about a 6 street radius. I just moved last week. My house is always a good time. Its in the middle of the street. Our house. Expensive as funk real estate but struggle to find reason to want to live anywhere else at the moment.
Moonshine
We’ve played in some sweet venues so far but the fact that we have a live venue that is this good in our back garden is really cool. If you’re looking for live music in Manly this the place to go. A rum bar upstairs at Hotel Steyne, big room with a huge balcony overlooking Manly beach and it always gets wild.
