Winston Surfshirt drop video for ‘Be About You’ ft Dog
WINSTON SURFSHIRT’s ‘Be About You’ has already cemented itself as a pure gem of 2017. From the high vocals to the smooth soulful guitar, light synths and rapped verses – it’s a track that delivers in every way.
‘Be About You’ now gets to live a second life as a music video featuring the six-piece and of course, their trusty dog that Winston has stated “is available for dog model work. Inquire within.” The video itself is not a fussy affair, directed by Nicole Alexander who has previously worked on Australian Idol, Jimmy Kimmel Live and The Voice, but it is a clearly a impeccably put together production.
The video mainly features amazing use of editing around a simple concept. The band are all playing against the traditional low-budget-but-classy white background which is then edited, at first simply and as the video continues, more abstract and erratic. The cut and paste effect of the videos on top of one another is like a scrapbook; it’s simply effective and draws little away from the song. The music video’s highlight however is all the little moments that it captures and keeps. They are unimportant but somewhat delightful to see in a heavily produced video – Winston readjusting his long t-shirt, chewing a bit of gum in the close ups; the lil dog having a grand old time and even the close up of The Bone (trombone player) in which all the wrinkles created from playing are visible. It’s a straightforward video – a bunch of hot talented guys and a dog play some music (and be a dog) and it all works out perfectly. It lacks a degree of pretension and furthers the relaxed and purely Australian vibe Winston Surfshirt seem to be cultivating.
Winston Surfshirt have also recently signed to the Creative Artists Agency for all of their North and South American bookings. The CAA are also the agents of RUFUS, Roisin Murphy, Tom Misch, NAO and Goldlink. It is yet another impressive roster in which Winston Surfshirt have joined after signing to Astral People, Sweat it Out and Niche Productions last month. Winston Surfshirt will be officially releasing their single at Newtown Social Club on March 25th however all tickets sold out within two weeks of being announced, so it’s already too late. But it isn’t too late to keep up to date with Winston Surfshirt as they continue their ascent to one of Australia’s coolest new bands.
