Live Review: PREMIERE: Palais reminisces about summer with his new single 'Chimera'

16 March 2017 | 9:00 am | Lauren Payne

Palais has taken summer and injected it into the first single from his debut EP 'Chimera'.

Remember those wonderful mornings where you'd wake up to bright blue sky and just instantly feel like you needed to go to the beach? PALAIS does too and he misses those days just as much as the rest of us, so he decided to go right ahead and emulate that exact feeling on his new single 'Chimera'.

The track is the first to be released from his upcoming EP Apolis, his second EP that will surely cement his name in Australia's thriving electronic scene. 'Chimera' takes Palais, formerly known as Palace, back to his musical roots. Being from Perth, he translated the lifestyle he was accustomed to there and transformed it into a vibrant array of synths and samples that work together to create one of the warmest melodies we've heard in a while.

Everything is kept simple and crisp as the synths shimmer and slowly build until a snapping beat erupts. When you anticipate a heavy beat to drop, Palais instead pulls everything back and continues 'Chimera' with a very minimalistic melody that just feels easy and completely natural. Nothing on this track feels forced. Every note delicately moulds itself into the mix complementing all of the other elements of the track to create a perfect balance of house, electronica and techno.

It's pure in the most colourful sense. 'Chimera' is a beautiful track that really shows that less is indeed more by showing its power with such a small set of beats.
