Live Review: 'Drift' away to Benji Lewis' new collab with Golden Vessel

Melbourne artist Benji Lewis has released new single 'Drift'. Warm and calming, the track is lifted from his forthcoming EP, and features his sublime vocals over a chill and atmospheric beat, courtesy of the one and only Golden Vessel.

Smooth and repetitive, Golden Vessel lays down his production with finesse and expertise. He knows what he's doing here, having grown into a fully fledged force to be reckoned with in his own right. Mixing the synths perfectly with Lewis' vocals, the beat is simple but very effective and it really allows the vocals to shine through.

However, despite how captivating the beat is, it's merely the perfect complement for the real star of the show - Benji Lewis himself. Throughout the song he has a soft and calm delivery of his vocals, highlighting his dynamic range from his R'n'B, downtempo verses to his flawless falsetto in the hooks of the song. Speaking of the song, Benji said, “I wrote this song on a warm Monday night while I was in Brisbane, working on new material with Max (aka Golden Vessel). We had been writing all day and this one came at around 9pm. Once we had laid down some ideas, we both knew we had created something pretty special.

For me, a lot of my happiness is in the sun, being around good people, and being by the water. All of that slipped into the lyrics as well. I hope it brings some of that peace and happiness to those that hear it.”

Benji Lewis has done a phenomenal job of getting people hyped for his forthcoming EP and we look forward to hearing more.
