Winston Surfshirt want their debut to ‘Be About You’

Hailing from Sydney’s northern beaches, WINSTON SURFSHIRT have wasted no time in showing us exactly what the fuck they’re about. Their debut single, ‘Be About You’, oozes soul and sensuality at any given opportunity and it is certainly a tune to remember.

‘Be About You’ marks a new era for Winston Surfshirt who have existed far longer than what you probably would expect. Starting off as a solo project of the multi-talented singer/rapper/producer Winston Surfshirt, it eventually became a far more collaborative project taking on artists and producers from all across the country. Naturally, as a result of this, the collective Winston Surfshirt have wrangled and perfected a sound that is well and truly their own, and this first taste of what’s to come is indicative of that.

It’s a blissful and colourful cut that combines the smoothness of Anderson .Paak and the bumping percussion of A Tribe Called Quest, but still remains very much their own sound. The vocals slink with every verse, as the combination of golden-age hip-hop and dreamy guitar act as a soulful base.

It’s exciting times for Winston Surfshirt. Having just been signed to Sweat It Out, as well as coming off the back of a dope Polographia collaboration, they’re on track to support RÜFÜS on their regional tour this summer. 2017 is shaping up to be theirs for the taking, and we ain’t mad about it.
