Live Review: Get funky with Tuxedo's new EP "Fux With The Tux"

Reintroduce yourself to the funk of Stones Throw's Tuxedo (Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One) with their newest EP, Fux With The Tux.

If you have a passion for modern disco music but also want to hear those vintage funky sounds, TUXEDO’s latest EP Fux With The Tux is right up your alley.

Stones Throw’s funkiest artists Tuxedo have just dropped their widely anticipated EP, Fux With The Tux, the first we’ve heard from them since their 2015 self-titled album, and annual festive Christmas songs since. A side project for MAYER HAWTHORNE and JAKE ONE, both guys share a love and passion for the elegant funk music of the 70’s and 80’s, and have chosen to let that love flow here.

Fux With The Tux kicks off with the lush harmonies, plucked synthesised bass and instantly memorable lyrics that made the debut so irresistibly catchy. The title track gives fans everything they could ever want from a follow up release and provides newcomers a perfect summary from what they can expect from Tuxedo and the rest of the EP.

‘Special’, the second track and middle of the EP, highlights the best of Hawthorne's and One’s writing and instrumentation through a sensual and laidback love ballad, before concluding with ‘July’, another thick and tender boy-meet-girl love song, reminiscent of something you would hear in a hazy sex scene from a cheesy, classy 80’s movie.

The funk is well and truly back in the form of Tuxedo. We hope that Fux With The Tux is just an appetiser for what is to come in 2017 from the boys in the Tux.
