Live Review: FØRD's about to blow up with his new gem 'Oblivion'

2 December 2016 | 1:12 pm | Jackson Langford

We're not sure what we did to deserve Byron Bay-based wunderkind FØRD, but we're not going to question this absolute blessing. The 18-year-old self taught producer and multi-instrumentalist is doing a right good job at making the rest of us oldies feel a bit useless, but that's okay with me, as long as he is churning out mega tunes like his latest offering, 'Oblivion.'

The producer has been making waves with his combination of lush synths and thumping beats, not to mention his ability to scout only the best vocals that are going to elevate his masterful production to the next level. Not only is 'Oblivion' no exception - it's possibly the best example of his talent yet.

Definitely one for fans of Flume (ie. everyone), 'Oblivion' is a smooth electro-pop tune that, for an increasingly overcrowded genre, has a sound that is all FØRD's own. It has summer bop written all over it as the bouncing synths couple dreamily with the mysterious RYA PARK's ethereal, house-inspired vocals. It's ultimately a forward-thinking track that still has accessibility and pop appeal - one for the whole family!

'Oblivion' is the icing on the cake for an already monumental 2016 for FØRD. He's spent large amounts of this year atop Triple J Unearthed's dance and electronic charts with two number #1's. He's also come off the back of collaborations with fellow up-and-comers Xavier Dunn and Woodes, and this new one with Rya Park shows that FØRD is only getting better. Keep an eye on this guy in 2017 - you're going to be hearing him a lot.
