Artists To Watch in 2017: HI LIFE

29 December 2016 | 9:00 am | Jackson Langford

Canberra duo HI LIFE splashed colour and sweetness all over an otherwise relatively bleak 2016, and we're expecting nothing less next year.

Have you ever heard electronic music so sweet and sugary that it gave you a tooth ache? Like, I'm talking taking the next available dentist appointment you can get, just for them to tell you to stop listening before all your chompers fall out. But, like any decent sugary snack, you'll keep going back for more. It's addictive, it's energising, it's almost euphoric - and those are just some of the ways we can describe Canberra act HI LIFE.

Throughout an arguably bleak 2016, the duo have been splashing colour over an otherwise grey year with their take on electronic pop music. Their raison d'être was the conquering hyper pop tune, 'When I Get To The Club.' It's an uncompromising bop that doesn't hold back once. From the opening, bass-filled seconds you can feel it in your very being that this is going to be a thumper of a tune, and that's exactly what it is. If you're a fan of producer SOPHIE - i.e. everyone - then you are going to absolutely froth this. It's a massive, glitchy, shining cut from the HI LIFE boys and I can guarantee once you give it your first listen, there will be no turning back.

'When I Get To The Club' has truly set the trajectory for a colossal 2017, and they bloody deserve it. After having been featured on Sydney collective Sidechains' second compilation earlier this year and now being signed to KOSHER (Carmada, Tigerilla), the boys managed to score the set of a lifetime by opening up for SOPHIE - who they referred to as "one of our fav. producers of all time." With new music and tours in the works, mark our words that next time HI LIFE get to the club, you will want to be there.
