Live Review: Tigerilla's 'Tulips' gets a blossoming rework with Okenyo and Gill Bates

22 November 2016 | 5:02 pm | Jackson Langford

As if TIGERILLA's massive track 'Tulips' couldn't get any better, he goes and does exactly that.

The bouncy tune, which also has one of the best music videos of the year, was already smooth AF to begin with and absolutely oozing with coolness. This rework, aptly titled 'Tulips 2.0', while still including GILL BATES' monumentally infectious verses, now also features a verse from Sydney-based musician OKENYO, who has just come off the back of supporting queen Santigold.

The flow from Okenyo is effortless yet hard-hitting - imagine if Lauryn Hill was rapping over a Flume track. Her female perspective not only adds a great deal of thematic diversity to the already massive track, but her smooth, understated flow matches perfectly with Gill Bates who takes the same style approach to an otherwise hype tune.

Of the incredibly fresh collab with both of these up-and-coming lyricists, Tigerilla says, "Now instead of just one upcoming star, I have two on my track! Very lucky, 2.0!"

Tigerilla will be playing the Adelaide stop of Triple J's Matt & Alex's '5 RAVES IN 5 DAYS', and is ending his mammoth 2016 by playing sure-to-be absolutely knockout sets at EMC:Play, Sets on the Beach and Beyond the Valley festival.
