Live Review: Tabrill glitches out on new Kuren Remix

1 November 2016 | 8:33 am | Dan Hill

Brisbane-based beat maker Tabrill goes in hard with this eclectic trap remix of fellow young producer Kuren's 'Home' ft Ben Alessi.

If you haven’t heard of TABRILL yet then put that pen down, close that work tab and put on your listening pants, because you need to. Immediately. The Brisbane-based beat maker is the latest bright spark to be making waves in the Australian electronic scene and a quick look at his production record will leave you with no doubts as to why. From collaborations with the likes of Feki to remixes for Australian heavyweights such as Kilter, Tabrill’s star is on the rise, and now he’s returned once again with an earthquake inducing remix of Kuren’s hit, ‘Home' ft. Ben Alessi.

From start to finish, Tabrill has applied his signature eclectic style to the tune, creating a glitchy and unique dancefloor banger. As the song opens, the young gun takes Kuren’s emotive piano chords and layers them with frenetic vocal sampling, building the energy to fever pitch.

However, the producer saves his best work for the drop, which can only be described as somewhere between a lush, room-filling instrumental and a broken ham radio. Ben Alessi’s bouncy vocals are processed almost beyond comprehension and take a backseat to heavy orchestral stabs, distorted synths and a growling bassline. From here on out, the only way forward is further down the rabbit hole, and Tabrill guides the listener through 3 minutes of dancefloor destruction with practiced ease.
